COUNSELLING/PSYCOTHERAPY

Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy for Adults
How do I know Counselling or Psychotherapy is for me?
I offer an introductory session, for which the standard fee is £60 pounds or a short telephone appointment for free. During this time we will discuss the concerns you are bringing and look at whether counselling and psychotherapy is for you. You need to be open to talking and exploring about your life (past and present), dreams and wishes. It's important to remember therapy is hard work and requires commitment for you to benefit. We might agree to a set number of sessions and then review after this period to see if you would like to continue.
Feeling comfortable
It is important that you and I feel comfortable together. I know how difficult it is to come to therapy I have been there myself. You are going to need to talk about things that may make you feel rather uncomfortable so it is essential that you feel I am supportive and understanding. Although I think I'm a pretty understanding person we are all very different and have our own ideas and feelings around what is right for us. Our initial session will allow us both to get a feel for whether we will be a good fit for each other.
Confidentiality
I am a trained psychotherapist and registered with COCSA the professional body which oversees counsellors in Scotland. The requirements of being a member means I must keep all client information confidential at all times, except only when there is an issue of serious harm to yourself or others. In the rare occasions this happens I would first discuss with a client that I would have to break our confidentiality. I also work with an experienced supervisor to assist with my work and they are bound by the same agreement. I also work by the ethics which COSCA lays out to ensure the safety of all my clients

About Me
I graduated as a Psychodynamaic counsellor from the Garnethill Centre in Glasgow. The Centre has been offering training for 40 years and is well recognised as a centre of excellence, being an accredited training centre.
I have a varied background, being trained as a scientist, working as ecologist and also running my own sustainable gardening business for over a decade. I also offer my counselling services for free at a mental health charity in Falkirk (FDAMH). I have always been fascinated by how things work and training as a psychotherapist allowed me to explore the biggest question, understanding ourselves. I am fascinated by how our early experiences affect who we are in the present. I really believe in the power of counselling and the relationship we will develop when we work together.
What is Psychodynamic Therapy?
Psychodynamic Counselling is a supportive journey that delves into the subconscious mind to unravel patterns, emotions and experiences shaping your present. By exploring past influences, it helps us understand how they impact your thoughts, behaviours, and relationships, paving the way for self awareness, personal growth, and positive change. This approach aims to foster insight, resilience, and a deeper understanding of oneself within a safe and empathic therapeutic space. Counselling is generally shorter term work while Psychotherapy generally is 6 month or more and much more in depth work. This approach is evidence based and promotes long lasting change and improvement.
